US FCC Commissioner Asked to Remove Tiktok from App Stores

Will TikTok face a threat?

Where Apple and Google plan to remove stores, The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States sheds light on the operations of the popular TikTok app.

The United States has asked Google and Apple-owned app stores to block the Chinese app.

The long-running battle between the US government and TikTok dates back to the administration of Donald Trump.

Trump had ordered the removal of TikTok or the Chinese app selling its US operation to an American investor. The administration of incumbent President Joe Biden has also criticized the video-sharing app "TikTok".

While Trump banned TikTok in September 2020, leading to a lawsuit by ByteDance, the parent company of the video-sharing app, Biden opted for the option of tighter regulatory oversight over the company's operation.

TikTok also faced challenges in India, which led to the app being permanently banned from entering the country in January 2021, along with more than 50 other Chinese apps, as well as  Bangladesh, Indonesia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Arab countries such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia are also planning the same thing

The results have shown that there are a billion users of TikTok worldwide. 43.7 percent of TikTok users are between the ages of 18 and 24. 57 percent of TikTok users are female. The majority of TikTok users are in Southeast Asia, home to 226.8 million of them.

That prompted FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr to send letters to the chief executives of Google and Apple, Sundar Pichai and Tim Cook, respectively, on June 24.

TikTok has been accused of harvesting parts of sensitive data accessed in Beijing, China.

Carr wrote: “As you know, TikTok is an app available to millions of Americans through your app stores, and it collects a large set of sensitive data about these American users.
TikTok is owned by Beijing-based ByteDance - an organization beholden to the Chinese Communist Party and required by Chinese law to comply with PRC surveillance demands. "

Are you with or against banning TikTok in Arab countries, specifically Egypt?
